Selangor Ruler Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah has instructed the state government to address the issue of frequent floods that inconvenience the people. The Ruler emphasized the need for immediate implementation of short-, medium-, and long-term plans. He questioned the purpose of boasting about economic achievements when the basic needs of the people are not effectively met. The Ruler also advised the elected representatives to practice integrity and serve the people well. He urged the newly formed state government to promptly overcome deficiencies in infrastructure and development affecting the lives of Selangor residents. Selangor is often plagued by flash floods during heavy rainfall.
The floods in 2021 caused loss of life and property damage in areas like Taman Sri Muda in Shah Alam. The Ruler emphasized that resolving all issues related to the daily lives of the people is a top priority for the government. He highlighted Selangor’s lagging investment and export value in comparison to Penang, Johor, and Sarawak. The Ruler stressed the importance of recognizing this reality and taking immediate action to prevent further damage to Selangor’s reputation as a major contributor to the national economy.
