SHAH ALAM: The Sultan of Selangor, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, has conveyed his condolences to the family of Datin Paduka Sister Enda Ryan, the founder of Assunta all-girls schools, who passed away last Sunday at the age of 96.
Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin also expressed her sympathies.
In a statement on the Selangor Royal Office’s Facebook page, Sultan Sharafuddin commended the late Enda Ryan for her significant contributions to education and welfare in Malaysia since her arrival in Malaya in 1955.
“In recognition of her dedicated services and outstanding contributions, Enda Ryan was bestowed the Darjah Kebesaran Dato’ Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, with the title of Datin Paduka, by the Sultan of Selangor in 2007,” the statement said.
Enda Ryan, who became a Malaysian citizen in October 1966, was also honored with the Tokoh Guru Negri Selangor Award in 1990.
She was born on December 30, 1928, in Galbally, Ireland, and served as the former headmistress of Assunta all-girls schools in Petaling Jaya. – Bernama
