KLANG: The Sultan of Selangor Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah expressed his disappointment towards community groups, politicians, and political party leaders who have been using abusive and offensive language, as well as bringing the royal institution into their political campaigns.
Sultan Sharafuddin emphasized that this situation indicates a decline in their respect for the royal institution, although the Malay Rulers have always provided protection for Muslims, Malays, and other races.
“Their rudeness has exceeded the boundaries and values that are often upheld by Muslims and Malays. It is important to remember that being popular among the people does not give you the right to belittle those who do not share your political beliefs,” Sultan said during the ceremony for the appointment of the Mentri Besar and state executive council (Exco) at Istana Alam Shah.
Tengku Permaisuri of Selangor Tengku Permaisuri Norashikin and the Raja of Selangor Tengku Amir Shah were also present at the event.
Therefore, the Selangor Ruler called on all parties to put an end to the culture of insulting others, as it can disrupt social harmony. Instead, the focus should be on improving the lives of the people and building a prosperous nation.
His Royal Highness also encouraged Malay Muslims in Selangor to avoid disputes and conflicts that could lead to division and tarnish the image of Islam.
“I have observed how politics have caused disunity among Muslims due to narrow political understanding. It is time to move forward and change our way of thinking and political culture,” Sultan stated.
The state elections have concluded, so the Sultan urged everyone to work together to strengthen relationships regardless of religion, race, or political affiliation. Unity is essential for rebuilding Selangor and the country as a whole.
The Selangor Ruler also advised the public to utilize social media platforms and modern technology positively to promote unity, rather than spreading slander and hatred that would divide communities. – Bernama
