According to Selangor Mentri Besar Amirudin Shari, the state is projected to repay its debt of RM19,207,475.78 to the Federal Government by 2024. This is made possible by the state’s robust financial position as stated in the Selangor Budget 2024.

The amount owed was used for a water supply project and the Skim Amanah Saham Selangor.

For the effective management of water, drainage, and water resources, the 2024 state budget has allocated RM68 million to Selangor’s Irrigation and Drainage Department.

Amirudin also announced that RM65 million will be allocated for various development projects, including flood mitigation, drainage system development, river basin development, water and hydrology development, environmentally friendly drainage management, and coastal development, covering 103 programs.

He further stated that the state government will collaborate with the Federal Government to expedite flood mitigation projects in Selangor, including the Langat River Phase 2 flood mitigation project, estimated to cost RM3 billion.

Emphasizing on food security, the Selangor Budget 2024 will focus on strengthening the Food Security Programme in collaboration with the Federal Government.

“The state government will enhance food stocks, particularly rice, fish, and meat, to prepare for any regional or overseas changes due to climate or geopolitical factors,” said Amirudin.

Additionally, RM40 million will be allocated, with RM20 million from the state government and the remaining from the Selangor Agricultural Development Corporation (PKPS), to increase the state’s food supply for three to six months.

Amirudin also mentioned that PKPS will implement proven paddy cultivation techniques to enhance food security in Selangor.
