SHAH ALAM: The Selangor government is implementing a gradual reduction in dam water storage capacity in preparation for the Northeast Monsoon season, according to state infrastructure and agriculture committee chairman Izham Hashim. Lembaga Urus Air Selangor (LUAS) has been taking the lead in this initiative since mid-August, and the efforts have yielded positive results. The move aims to create sufficient space in all dams and prevent water overflow that could lead to flooding. Izham Hashim made the statement on Friday (Oct 20).
The state of Selangor has a total of seven dams. Two of them, namely the Sungai Selangor and Sungai Tinggi dams, are located in the Hulu Selangor district. Another dam, the Tasik Subang Dam, is situated in the Petaling district. The Hulu Langat district is home to two more dams: the Sungai Langat and Semenyih dams. These dams function as reservoirs for raw water supply, and they are operated by Pengurusan Air Selangor Sdn Bhd (Air Selangor).
In addition to these, the Gombak district hosts two dual-function dams, namely the Klang Gates and Batu dams. These are utilized for flood mitigation as well as raw water supply, and they are jointly managed by the Drainage and Irrigation Department (JPS) and Air Selangor.
