According to Selangor Housing and Culture Committee chairman Borhan Aman Shah, the state government has procured an old building from Bank Negara Malaysia (BNM) in Section 14, with plans to convert it into the new Shah Alam art gallery.
The new gallery is anticipated to be operational within two years and is projected to cost approximately RM30 million, as stated by Borhan. He mentioned that the state government acquired the building for RM38 million and is currently in the process of obtaining concept drawings from the Public Works Department.
Borhan also noted that the building will be renovated, and highlighted the existence of a vault within the building. He added that the state government has requested consent from Selangor Sultan, Sultan Sharafuddin Idris Shah, to store valuable paintings in the vault. Borhan made these remarks to reporters after launching the Shah Alam Gallery Open Exhibition 2024 on Saturday (Jan 27).
Furthermore, it was mentioned that the old Shah Alam Gallery, which has been in operation for 33 years, is situated on Persiaran Tasik in Section 14.
Borhan also revealed that the open exhibition showcasing 52 artworks with various themes is expected to draw around 5,000 visitors from Jan 27 until Feb 29.
In a separate announcement, Borhan stated that every Thursday, 28,000 Selangor government civil servants will be attired in the Selangor batik featuring the Spanish cherry (bunga tanjung) motif with nine petals, the official state flower. He further mentioned plans to extend this attire requirement to employees of state government-linked companies in stages. – Bernama
