SHAH ALAM: A memorandum of understanding has been signed between the Selangor and Federal governments to collaborate and share data in Selangkah Ventures Sdn Bhd with the Central Database Hub (Padu). Chief statistician Datuk Seri Dr Mohd Uzir Mahidin signed on behalf of the Statistics Department of Malaysia, while Dr Helmi Zakariah, chief information officer of Selangkah Ventures Sdn Bhd, signed for the state subsidiary.
Witnessed by Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari, the signing took place on Wednesday (April 3). Amirudin mentioned that Selangkah contains information about recipients of various social welfare schemes provided by the state government, with around 3,712,616 details of 66,216 subsidy recipients from the Selangkah application set to be shared with Padu, pending terms and conditions.
The state’s decision to share the data stems from the desire to ensure residents do not miss out on the Federal Government’s schemes, particularly the upcoming targeted subsidies. Amirudin also mentioned that the transfer and cross-checking of data between Selangkah and Padu will be put into effect on April 19.
During a press conference, Amirudin highlighted the state’s efforts in promoting Padu by opening 3,221 counters across Selangor from January 2 to Sunday (March 31), in collaboration with the Economy Ministry to engage community leaders. Recognizing the importance of accurate data for national policy development, the state government is committed to sharing data to facilitate sustainable policies for the people.
As of the Padu registration deadline on Sunday, 1.89 million Selangor residents aged 18 and above, which makes up 44.5% of the total eligible population of 4.24 million, have updated their details in the system. Dr Mohd Uzir commented that Selangor is the first state to directly sign an MoU with the Statistics Department, as other states have typically initiated government-to-government collaborations with Putrajaya.
