KOTA KINABALU: The Semporna police are currently searching for the suspect involved in a hit-and-run incident that led to the death of a 62-year-old pedestrian last week.
Semporna OCPD Supt Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah stated that the victim was struck by a car on July 19 at approximately 8pm along Jalan Kampung Selamat, Jalan Persisiran Pantai.
“Early investigations have revealed that the suspect’s vehicle lost control and collided with the pedestrian who was walking along the roadside.
“After the incident, the driver fled the scene, while the victim was immediately taken to Semporna hospital. Unfortunately, the victim was pronounced dead on July 20.
“We are actively conducting efforts to locate the suspect and we urge any witnesses to the incident to come forward and provide their statements,” he stated in a press release on Wednesday (July 26).
Supt Mohd Farhan specified that anyone with information can contact investigating officer Insp Hemkkumar Ayathuray at 012-365 0021. The case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 (causing death by reckless or dangerous driving).
