An 82-year-old man has pleaded not guilty to a charge of molesting a 50-year-old woman at the Magistrate’s Court in Ayer Keroh, Melaka.
The accused, Liang Sing Kup, appeared before Magistrate Khairunnisak Hasni on October 31.
According to the charge sheet, Liang is accused of caressing the hands, hugging, and grabbing the head of Teng Mee Cheng, thus outraging her modesty.
The alleged incident took place at an office in Jalan Merdeka, Taman Melaka Raya, Bandar Hilir, Melaka Tengah district at around 3.50pm on September 11.
The charge against Liang falls under Section 354 of the Penal Code, which deals with the use of force with the intention to outrage a person’s modesty.
If convicted, he could face a jail term of up to 10 years, a fine, whipping, or a combination of these punishments.
Deputy public prosecutor Wardah Ishar handled the prosecution, while Liang was represented by lawyer A. Renganathan Abdullah.
The court granted bail of RM3,000 and required one surety. The next mention of the case is scheduled for December 7.
