BATU PAHAT: A 62-year-old man tragically lost his life in a fatal accident involving a car and a lorry at KM0.8 of the Yong Peng-Parit Sulong-Muar road here. The incident occurred around 1:20 am on Sunday (May 9), according to Batu Pahat acting OCPD Supt Shahrulanuar Mushaddat Abdullah Sani.
According to reports, the lorry driver, a 49-year-old man, was driving towards Yong Peng from Parit Yaani when a car from the opposite lane suddenly veered into its path, resulting in a collision. Unfortunately, the car driver sustained fatal injuries and was pronounced dead at the scene, as confirmed by Supt Shahrulanuar.
As a result of the accident, the lorry driver suffered leg injuries and was promptly taken to Sultanah Nora Ismail for medical treatment. Supt Shahrulanuar urged anyone with information regarding the incident to come forward and assist in the ongoing investigation. The case is currently being reviewed under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.
Meanwhile, the Yong Peng Fire and Rescue Department deployed seven firemen to the accident site. “When we arrived, we found the victim trapped inside his vehicle. By utilizing rescue tools, we managed to extricate him from the car,” shared Badrulhisyam Loi Abdullah, the operation commander. “Medical officers at the scene later confirmed the unfortunate passing of the man.”
