A 63-year-old senior citizen, who works as an ehailing driver, pleaded guilty to four charges of sexual assault against his 13-year-old daughter last year. The plea was made at the Sessions Court in Butterworth on Thursday, September 14, after the charges were read out to him by Judge Noor Aini Yusof. The offences were said to have occurred at a house in Tanah Liat, Bukit Mertajam, between March and June 2022. The accused was charged under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which carries a punishment of imprisonment for up to twenty years and can also entail whipping upon conviction.
Deputy Public Prosecutor Wan Amira Ruzaini Wan Abdul Razak opposed bail for the accused, considering that the victim’s father and he resided in the same house.
