A 17-year-old pupil was killed in an accident in Meru, and a senior police officer has been arrested in connection with the incident, according to Ipoh OCPD Asst Comm Yahaya Hassan.
The accident occurred on Jalan Taman Jati at 12.40pm on Friday (Dec 15), with the victim riding a motorcycle and the 44-year-old officer driving a car, revealed ACP Yahaya in a statement on Friday (Dec 15).
Tragically, the student died at the scene while the policeman was unharmed, and post-mortem examination revealed that the victim had chest and abdominal injuries, according to ACP Yahaya, who also noted that the officer, stationed in Kedah, has been arrested and is currently under remand.
In addition to investigating the case under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987, the police are also looking into the incident under Section 302 of the Penal Code for murder.
Emphasizing that the police will not protect anyone, even if it’s their officer, ACP Yahaya urged the public to refrain from making any speculation that could affect the investigation.
