The Sepang Municipal Council (MPSepang) is presenting a deficit budget for 2024. Its president, Datuk Abd Hamid Hussain (pic below), stated that approximately RM250mil has been set aside for the year, while the expected revenue is RM202mil. This results in a shortfall of RM48mil. The budget is themed “Sepang Pemacu Kecemerlangan” (Sepang Towards Excellence).
Abd Hamid mentioned that the council is focusing on seven main strategies. These strategies include diversifying existing sources of income, introducing new ones, and practicing prudent spending. Other strategies involve enhancing services in terms of cleanliness and utilizing information and communication technology (ICT) to improve customer accessibility. He stated, “We also aim to strengthen community ties and enhance welfare programs for Sepang residents. Lastly, we want to promote innovation in green technology.”
According to Abd Hamid, the council prioritizes the welfare of the people of Sepang. He stated, “Considering the economic uncertainty in Malaysia, we have prepared an inclusive budget that takes into account social aspects, infrastructure, and public facilities for the benefit of all Sepang residents.”
On a separate note, Abd Hamid mentioned that during the municipality’s World Clean Up Day celebration on Sept 17, a total of 500kg of waste and 782 cigarette butts were collected along Pantai Bagan Lalang. The event involved the participation of 305 volunteers from both the public and private sectors.
