Seremban police have apprehended a 25-year-old motorcyclist who crashed into a Road Transport Department (JPJ) officer while trying to escape a roadblock on the Seremban-Port Dickson highway on September 17th morning.
Port Dickson police chief, Supt Aidi Sham Mohamed, stated that the motorcyclist did not possess a valid driving license and his road tax had expired.
“The suspect, aged 25, has a criminal record of eight offenses, which include drug-related crimes. He will be taken to the Port Dickson Court on September 18th for further detention,” said Mohamed in a statement on Sunday.
“The case is currently under investigation and is being handled in accordance with Section 353 of the Penal Code, which pertains to the use of force to intimidate public servants,” he added.
A video capturing the incident, which has now gained widespread attention, shows a motorcycle colliding with a JPJ officer manning a roadblock along the highway at approximately 11 am.
The officer was propelled into the air and landed several meters away after being struck by the motorcyclist.
According to Mohamed, the JPJ officer sustained minor injuries to his leg and hand and received medical treatment at Port Dickson Hospital.
In a separate statement issued by the JPJ on Sunday, it was revealed that the motorcyclist has two blacklist entries, and his road tax had expired in July 2012.
The JPJ confirmed that a police report had been filed, and the motorcyclist was subsequently handed over to the police for further examination.
“We advise the public not to attempt to escape or act unpredictably during JPJ roadblocks,” cautioned the JPJ in their statement.
