Police in Seremban are launching an investigation into the alleged abuse of a 13-month-old baby boy by his babysitter. According to Seremban deputy police chief Supt Mohd Rosli Ishak, a police report was filed on Dec 7. The claim has also gained traction on social media.
Supt Mohd Rosli also reminded the public not to interfere in any case related to child abuse or neglect. The case is being investigated under Section 31(1)(a) of the Child Act 2001, which covers abandonment, neglect, and exposing a child to danger. If convicted, the offender could face up to 20 years in jail, a fine of up to RM50,000, or both.
A viral post detailed a woman’s account, claiming her husband noticed bruises on their child’s back on Dec 5 while changing his diapers at home. She stated that they were shocked at the extent of the bruises. The woman had been sending her son to the babysitter in Sikamat for three months and mentioned finding similar, less visible marks on her son’s body earlier. When they confronted the babysitter, they were told that other children may have been responsible. The woman stated that the babysitter looks after more than 10 children and had to admit her son to the hospital for a checkup.
