In an effort to eliminate power rationing in Sabah, Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd (SESB) is planning to install six additional generators on a rental basis at various locations across the state, with the goal of completing the project by May.

According to SESB chief executive officer Mohd Yaakob Jaafar, these new generators will provide a total capacity of 93 megawatts (MW) and will help to strengthen the state’s power grid system.

He made this announcement in a statement released on Friday (May 29) following a visit to monitor the installation progress of three generators in the Sandakan district.

“The addition of these six generators is part of our ongoing efforts to improve the capacity of Sabah and Labuan’s electricity supply in order to meet the growing demands of consumers,” said Mohd Yaakob.

One generator at the Mowtas Main Distribution Substation has already been completed and is fully operational, providing a capacity of 10MW. Additionally, the installation of two more generators at Seguntor PPU and Labuk power station is nearing completion.

“Once these projects are finished, the generator at Seguntor PPU will provide a capacity of 10MW, while the one at Labuk power station will generate 30MW,” he explained.

The remaining three rented generators are situated in the districts of Tawau, Lahad Datu, and Labuan, further boosting the total electricity generation capacity to over 1,300MW.

“These new additions will play a vital role in enhancing our ability to meet the electricity needs of the state,” Mohd Yaakob added.
