The establishment of the Behavioural Science Unit (BSU) within the Bukit Aman Criminal Investigation Department (CID) is viewed as a strategic and innovative move to enhance police capabilities in addressing and investigating crimes, said Alliance for a Safe Community chairman Tan Sri Lee Lam Thye.
Lee expressed hope that the unit will be established as soon as next year, highlighting its potential to greatly benefit the department. He also emphasized that the BSU would offer better analysis on crimes and the behavior of offenders by utilizing science psychology, sociology, and criminology.
Furthermore, Lee stressed that the unit will play a key role in studying criminals’ behavior and crime patterns through data analysis, ultimately bolstering investigative efforts. He also emphasized the need for specialized training for BSU members to ensure their effectiveness.
Lee commended Bukit Aman CID director Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain for his innovative ideas to enhance the department and improve its efficiency. He highlighted the importance of the CID in dealing with various crimes, and expressed optimism that the establishment of the BSU would significantly enhance police efforts in solving crimes.
Additionally, Lee welcomed Comm Mohd Shuhaily’s decision to make asset declaration compulsory for CID officers, emphasizing the importance of good governance, ethics, and integrity, especially for law enforcers.
