JOHOR BARU: The police in Johor Baru have given approval for seven permits for ceramah and campaigning for the Pulai parliamentary and Simpang Jeram by-elections, according to Supt Ibrahim Mat Som, the Johor police by-election spokesman. As of Sunday (Aug 27), no investigation papers have been opened. Those involved in the campaign are advised not to create any provocation. Supt Ibrahim mentioned that three permits for ceramahs and three permits for campaigning have been approved for Pulai, while one permit for a ceramah has been approved for Simpang Jeram.
Supt Ibrahim issued a reminder to all political parties involved to show respect towards each other and refrain from damaging opponent’s posters, banners or burning political flags. According to him, such actions are crimes and can be dealt with under Section 427 of the Penal Code for committing mischief.
