Police in Shah Alam have apprehended a man for allegedly killing his wife by beating her with a dumbbell due to jealousy. The incident occurred at a residence on Jalan Sungai Congkak on Friday (Dec 15).
The Shah Alam OCPD Asst Comm Mohd Iqbal Ibrahim stated that at 5.33am, the police received a report from the suspect claiming that his wife had a seizure and he took her to Shah Alam Hospital as she was unconscious.
The doctor’s examination found that the 33-year-old woman had injuries on multiple parts of her body. Further investigation revealed that the victim was beaten by the suspect at their home out of jealousy before being taken to the hospital.
Following this information, the police apprehended the 38-year-old man at the Shah Alam Hospital, and also seized the dumbbell believed to have been used to beat his wife.
“The couple had just gotten married in April 2023 and did not have children. The deceased worked as an educator at a college in Sarawak and had returned for vacation to attend a family member’s wedding,” he said in a statement Friday night.
The suspect, who is self-employed, has two prior offences related to assault and drugs and tested positive for drugs in a screening test.
He is expected to be remanded on Saturday (Dec 16) at the Shah Alam Court.
The case is being investigated under Section 302 of the Penal Code, which carries the death penalty if convicted.
