Kepala Batas: Tan Sri Shahrizat Abdul Jalil has highlighted the significant gender gap that still exists in the labor market. As of May this year, the labor force participation rate for women was only 56.2%, compared to 82.9% for men. In an effort to address this imbalance, the Umno Women and Family Affairs Council (Hawa) chairman has suggested organizing career carnivals specifically for women to increase their labor force participation to 60%. Shahrizat emphasized the importance of financial freedom for women, stating that if every woman has her own wallet, it will have a positive impact on the health and welfare of her family.
The MYFuturejobs Career Carnival, organized by Hawa, took place on Saturday, August 5th, and was officiated by Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi. Shahrizat also mentioned that Hawa Malaysia is committed to spreading information about the Social Security Organization’s services, such as the Housewives Social Security Scheme (SKSSR), to women across the country. She expressed her support for the efforts of the Human Resources Ministry and Socso in including job seekers in the labor market, particularly women, as this will help revitalize the economy.
Shahrizat commended Socso for organizing 45 career carnivals with interviews specifically for women job seekers since January. She believes this initiative is a noble effort to encourage women to enter the labor market, which will in turn improve their families’ standard of living and contribute to the economic growth of the nation.
