PETALING JAYA: A ship caught fire near Pantai Acheh, Port Klang on Saturday (Aug 12) evening, says the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA).
It said that a Selangor MMEA boat, two tugboats from Westport and another from Northport were deployed once the distress call was received that the ship named MV KMTC Shenzen was on fire.
“The fire occurred in the ship’s cargo area. Water cannons from the two tugboats were used to bring the fire under control as part of the initial action,” the MMEA said in a statement on Sunday (Aug 13).
They also mentioned that a MMEA ship operating in a different sector was deployed along with a boat from the Maritime Department and a squad of firefighters who were dispatched to the scene at sea.
“All of the ship’s crew were rescued and are safe. Further developments will be updated from time to time,” the MMEA said.
