KUALA LUMPUR: Two suspects in a car had to be shot at by police after they refused to stop for an inspection in Kepong here. Video footage of the incident, which lasted 13 seconds, went viral on social media.
Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain (pic) said the incident took place on Monday (Aug 7) at 7.45am. A high-speed chase occurred from Pintasan Segambut through Taman Pusat Kepong until Laman Rimbunan, Jalan Kepong.
“Three motorcycle patrol units encountered the suspects in the car and instructed them to stop for an inspection. However, the suspects tried to flee and a 10-minute chase ensued,” Comm Mohd Shuhaily explained at a press conference held at KL police headquarters.
Upon reaching traffic congestion on Jalan Kepong, the suspect reversed the car and hit one of the policemen, causing light injuries and damaging his motorcycle. In response, two policemen fired nine shots targeted at the suspects’ car tires, resulting in the vehicle swerving to the side of the road.
“Both suspects then fled on foot, leaving a trail of damaged cars during the chase,” Comm Mohd Shuhaily added.
One suspect, O. Ganesan, aged 40, with a criminal record, is being actively sought by the police. “We believe this individual can assist in the investigation. We are currently in the process of identifying all the suspects involved,” Comm Mohd Shuhaily stated.
Various items were found in the suspects’ car, and police are working to determine if these items were stolen or used for criminal activities, he added.
