The unity government, led by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim, is enjoying strong support from Members of Parliament (MPs) and does not resort to threatening others for support, according to Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail, the secretary-general of Pakatan Harapan.
Saifuddin highlighted that the recent approval of the Supply Bill 2024 (Budget 2024) at the policy level in the Dewan Rakyat indicates the convincing level of support for the government.
He welcomed the support expressed by MPs from Perikatan Nasional, adding that their endorsement is not the result of any threats. He asserted that his party does not employ such tactics.
Saifuddin’s remarks were made during a press conference following the handover of the Registrar of Societies’ ‘Geran Pertubuhan Prihatin Komuniti’ (GPPK) community development grant in Kulim.
The Pakatan Harapan secretary-general was responding to the statement made by Perikatan secretary-general Datuk Seri Hamzah Zainudin, who claimed that his coalition was gathering evidence of alleged threats received by opposition MPs to support the government.
Saifuddin, who also serves as the Home Minister, advised that Perikatan should refrain from making accusations without substantial evidence.
In response to the allegations, Saifuddin confirmed that neither the Prime Minister, Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) commissioner Datuk Seri Azam Baki, nor the police have received any complaints related to the accusations made by Perikatan.
He challenged Perikatan and Hamzah to provide evidence if they claim such threats exist, stating that the government is operating as usual and enjoys significant support.
