German brand A. Lange & Söhne to showcase its exquisite craftsmanship in the upcoming House of Lange exhibition
Renowned German watch manufacturer A. Lange & Söhne will be displaying its intricate craftsmanship and sophisticated timepieces at The Starhill, a luxury mall in KL’s iconic shopping district of Bukit Bintang.
The House of Lange exhibition, which will be held from Nov 16 to 29, offers a unique opportunity for watch enthusiasts to delve into the world of horological mastery from the town of Glashütte and its rich heritage.
Since Ferdinand Adolph Lange founded his watchmaking company in 1845, this quaint town in the Ore Mountains has remained a hub for precision watchmaking in Saxony.
The exhibition will feature a curated selection of timepieces, including historical pocket watches, the original Lange 1 from the inaugural collection of the modern era introduced in 1994, as well as more recent models like the Zeitwerk Honeygold “Lumen” and the Triple Split.
Timeless luxury
The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater is composed of 771 parts, and the movement is meticulously finished by hand.
Staying true to their motto of ‘never stand still’ – A. Lange & Söhne has consistently explored uncharted territories of watchmaking, pushing the boundaries of what is possible.
Throughout the years, this relentless pursuit of innovation has conceived numerous novel developments and inventive breakthroughs in both design and engineering, such as the off-centre dial layout of the Lange 1 or technical patents for several mechanisms in the Zeitwerk.
One remarkable achievement is Lange’s mechanical digital watch, which incorporates a jumping numerals mechanism and a constant-force escapement.
The Zeitwerk Minute Repeater is the only mechanical wristwatch that combines a jumping numerals display with a decimal minute repeater.
This unique escapement ensures a consistent flow of power to the watch’s movement, regardless of whether it is fully wound or nearly unwound.
Regardless of the specific design or technical features of a given model, all Lange watches share a common trait: their movements are meticulously adorned with lavish decorations and are painstakingly twice assembled by hand.
In addition, novelties introduced this year that will be exhibited at House of Lange, include Lange 1 Time Zone in Platinum, the 1815 Rattrapante Perpetual Calendar and the Lange 1 Perpetual Calendar, which was recently unveiled at Watches and Wonders Shanghai 2023.
Visual feast
Visitors will have the opportunity to feast their eyes on the intricate craftsmanship for which A. Lange & Söhne is celebrated.
At designated times throughout the day, a watchmaker and an engraver will demonstrate their exceptional skills and artistry.
The exhibition also presents a range of exclusive exhibits, including a history wall, enlarged models of individual components, inspirational quotes from Lange family members, and a holographic display allowing digital inspection of selected timepieces.
The House of Lange exhibition will also feature historical pocketwatches.
Lange chief executive officer Wilhelm Schmid, notes that this one-of-a-kind exhibition will allow the brand to engage directly with watch enthusiasts, while providing insights into the world of precision watchmaking.
“There is no better way to learn more about our manufacture than to experience our timepieces up close and hear them ticking,” he said.
Lange’s presence in The Starhill, added Schmid, is a symbol of both a steadily growing community of watch collectors in the region, and the brand’s deep appreciation for its customers who play a pivotal role in enabling the preservation and advancement of its craftsmanship.
