Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has urged voters in Pulai to choose a candidate who can effectively serve them as polling day approaches. He advised them not to be swayed by lies, accusations, propaganda, and other malicious tactics. Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi expressed his confidence in the maturity of Johor voters while speaking at the launch of the state-level Madani Siaga program held at PPR Melana Indah 2 on September 8th.
Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi emphasized that after the by-election, all politicians, including himself, will no longer have any influence in the Pulai constituency. He stated that Suhaizan Kayat, the candidate from the unity government, has the support of Pulai Umno division chief Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed. Together, they can address the issues faced by the constituency.
The Pulai by-election was triggered by the passing of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who served as the Pulai MP, Simpang Jeram assemblyman, and domestic trade and cost of living minister. The by-election will witness a three-cornered fight between Suhaizan from Pakatan Harapan, Zulkifli Yahya from Perikatan Nasional, and Independent candidate Samsudin Mohamad Fauzi.
In the previous General Election, Salahuddin successfully defended the seat with a majority vote of 33,174 against Datuk Nur Jazlan Mohamed from Barisan Nasional (31,726 votes) and Loh Kah Yong from Perikatan Nasional (20,677 votes).
Polling day for both constituencies is scheduled for Saturday, September 9th.
