An investigation will be carried out by the Domestic Trade and Cost of Living Ministry into the online sale of Si Hulk brand drinking water. The investigation, which is being conducted under the Trade Description Act 2011, aims to address false and misleading advertisements related to health products. Deputy Minister Fuziah Salleh stated that the ministry will collaborate with the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC) and the Malaysian Competition Commission (MyCC) to combat uncertified and illegal advertising of health products. In order to take action against misleading and false advertisements, Fuziah emphasized the need to file a police report if a potential scam is identified. Although no complaints have been received regarding this particular product, an investigation will be initiated to crackdown on the sale of health products that do not comply with regulations. Fuziah encouraged individuals with information about the product to report it to the ministry.

Fuziah attended the Jualan Rahmah Tour programme at Tok Adis Night Market in Kuala Terengganu, Terengganu, prior to addressing this issue. She also emphasized that companies marketing health products must register their company and obtain approval from the Health Ministry before marketing their products. This is particularly important if the product makes certain claims or promises, as scientific research and Health Ministry approval are required for products that have positive health effects. Fuziah underscored the importance of businesses obeying the law and obtaining approvals from the relevant ministries.

In July, it was reported that the Si Hulk group’s drinking water factory in Johor was shut down due to non-compliance with standards, and the halal certificate was revoked. The Perak Fatwa Committee has previously deemed the beliefs founded by Si Hulk as deviant from Islamic teachings. The committee’s decision was made following their meeting in December 2020, where it was determined that the group had made fraudulent claims about their drinking water, exploiting religious elements to attract buyers. Si Hulk water is claimed to be from the fountain of youth, obtained by Prophet Khidir, and has purported abilities to cure diseases, prevent black magic, and more.
