SIBU: The significant progress in Sarawak’s development is due to the solid leadership of Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), says the party’s deputy president Datuk Amar Douglas Uggah Embas (pic)

“PBB’s unity and support for our leadership has made Sarawak a strong and progressive state,” he said at a welcoming dinner on Saturday (October 5).

During the event marking the launch of the new PBB Youth Wing committee, Douglas—also the Deputy Premier—spoke about Sarawak’s journey to becoming a high-income economy.

“By the end of 2026, ferries between Kuching and Miri will give way to bridges. Our annual revenue has risen consistently: RM6.76bil in 2021, RM11bil in 2022, and RM13.3bil in 2023, with projections of over RM13bil in 2024,” he said.

Douglas added that Sarawak is not only positioning itself as a green power giant in Southeast Asia, but also boasts its own petroleum company, sovereign wealth fund, airline, and bank.

He added that he remembers the poor facilities in Sarawak when he joined PBB in 1977.

“PBB is the cornerstone of the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS). The Sarawak of old was underdeveloped; I remember the poor roads to Betong. Now, we enjoy modern infrastructure, hospitals, and vital amenities,” said Douglas.

He encouraged the youth wing’s new members to bring new ideas, vision and digital proficiency to the table.

“Our current top leaders started in PBB’s Youth and Women’s wings. We’re now shaping the next generation through the PBB Youth wing. The youth must rise to the occasion, armed with innovation and a digital mindset in the era of artificial intelligence,” Douglas urged.

Douglas said that PBB has remained relevant since 1973 thanks to the leaders’ vision and capability to innovate in response to challenges.

“PBB’s essence lies in our Premier Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg’s understanding of the people’s needs. The energy and ideas of our youth will fortify the party’s future,” he concluded.
