SIBU, Sept 21 (Bernama) — The Region 5 Marine Police detained a cargo ship yesterday afternoon in Sibu for suspected illegal transportation of 40,000 litres of diesel fuel worth RM160,000 without a permit from the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN).

Four crew members aboard the ship were also arrested during Operation Taring Pensura when the ship was moored at a pontoon in Rantau Panjang near Sibu, according to Sibu district police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili. The crew consisted of one local man and three foreign men aged between 26 and 44 years old, originating from Indonesia and Myanmar.

The arrests were made under the Control of Supplies Act 1961 as the ship’s crew failed to present a valid permit or license issued by KPDN to transport the diesel in question, Zulkipli added.

The seized cargo of diesel, along with the ship and its equipment valued at over RM1 million, have been confiscated. The case has been handed over to KPDN Sibu Division for further action.
