SIBU: The Sibu police headquarters will host a town hall session at Universiti Teknologi Sarawak (UTS) on Tuesday (Sept 5) to combat cybercrime activities.
District police chief ACP Zulkipli Suhaili announced that the program aims to raise awareness and vigilance among the community, protecting them from falling prey to various cyber crime tactics that can result in significant financial losses, with some cases amounting to millions of ringgit.
“To discuss this issue, three panel members have been invited, including representatives from the Commercial Crime Division of IPD Sibu, the Malaysian Communications and Multimedia Commission (MCMC), and Bank Negara. The session will be moderated by a lecturer from UTS,” he said during a press conference.
Zulkipli shared that between January and August of this year, the district recorded 298 investigation papers in cyber crime cases, with a total financial loss exceeding RM7.7 million, compared to RM5.076 million in 2022.
“We hope this program will have a significant impact, particularly in raising awareness among the Sibu community and preventing them from falling victim to cyber crime,” he added. – Bernama
