THE Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band represented their country with pride at the World Pipe Band Championships 2023 held in Glasgow, Scotland.

After being promoted from Grade 4B in 2019, the band qualified for the finals and achieved a commendable ninth place in Grade 4A.

Under the leadership of pipe major Tirath Singh, drum sergeant Tripert Singh, head of mid-section Sukhpreet Kaur, and pipe sergeant Bhupinderjit Singh, the band has participated in three world championships in 2015, 2019, and 2023.

Tirath credited their perseverance as the key to their success.

“Although we fell short of securing first place, we will not give up and will continue to proudly represent Malaysia on the podium,” said Tirath.

Tripert expressed that the band’s qualification and ninth place finish demonstrated that Malaysians have what it takes to compete on a global scale.

Sukhpreet highlighted the team’s resilience, saying, “Despite the challenges we faced, I am thrilled to see how our young group performed and excited for the next opportunity.”

Bhupinderjit mentioned that the band had to overcome adverse weather conditions in Scotland to reach the finals.

“Finishing ninth in Grade 4A on our first attempt is a remarkable achievement, considering almost half of our members are newcomers,” acknowledged Bhupinderjit.

Sri Dasmesh Pipe Band was the only band representing South-East Asia in the championships.

In a press release, the band expressed that their main challenge remains securing funding.<

Operating solely on a voluntary basis, Sri Dasmesh does not charge any membership fees and provides free training and instruments to all its members.
