The upcoming Simpang Jeram by-election is expected to be a three-way contest between Nazri Abdul Rahman from Pakatan Harapan, Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya from Perikatan Nasional, and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan.
Jamil Hasni Abdullah, the Election Commission returning officer, confirmed that he has received and accepted the nominations of the three candidates at 10.13am.
S. Jeganathan arrived at the nomination centre in Muar at approximately 9.20am, while Nazri and Dr Mohd Mazri arrived earlier accompanied by their respective supporters.
S. Jeganathan, who had previously contested the Bukit Naning seat in the 14th General Election and the Johor state election last year, is now competing in this by-election.
Dr Mohd Mazri, on the other hand, was also a candidate in the Simpang Jeram seat during GE14, but lost to the late Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub.
Meanwhile, engineer Nazri Abdul Rahman is participating in an election for the first time.
