MUAR: Nazri Abdul Rahman, the Pakatan Harapan candidate for the Simpang Jeram state by-election, has announced that his campaign has reached nearly 80% completion with just five days left until polling day. He expressed confidence in connecting with all voters through face-to-face interactions at various locations such as stalls, food courts, homes, and commercial sites. Nazri hopes that by reaching out to voters in residential and rural areas, he can gain their support.
The Simpang Jeram constituency has a total of 40,379 registered voters, with Malays making up the largest percentage at 51.87%, followed by the Chinese at 44.58%, and Indians at 2.53%.
Nazri expressed his gratitude to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim for supporting his campaign efforts. He assured the Prime Minister that he will not disappoint and that his campaign team will work diligently to inform and motivate voters to fulfill their responsibility.
Anwar Ibrahim, during the Madani Mega Ceramah on Sunday, urged the Simpang Jeram voters to fully support Nazri in his bid for the state seat. Anwar believes that having Nazri in the state government will strengthen it and facilitate development efforts in the area.
The Simpang Jeram by-election was called following the death of Datuk Seri Salahuddin Ayub, who was also the Minister of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living, on July 23. This is one of two by-elections taking place, with the other one being for the Pulai parliamentary seat. The competition in both seats will be among Perikatan Nasional, BN-PH, and Independent candidates. In Simpang Jeram, Nazri will be facing PAS central committee member Dr Mohd Mazri Yahya from PN and Independent candidate S. Jeganathan, a local businessman.
The Election Commission has set the by-elections for the two seats to be held simultaneously, with early voting scheduled for Tuesday, September 5, and polling day on September 9. – Bernama
