A single mother and her family in Pasir Gudang are living in fear due to threats from loan sharks. The threats are related to loans taken by the woman’s ex-husband. The woman, identified as Yeng, reveals that apart from receiving threatening text messages, the loan sharks also vandalized her sister’s house by splashing yellow paint on it. Yeng explains that she lost contact with her ex-husband after their separation 10 years ago and has been living with her sister ever since. The nightmare started last month when she began receiving threatening messages from the loan sharks demanding repayment of the debt her ex-husband owed. The loan sharks even left a note at her sister’s house urging him to repay the money. On October 3, they took their harassment a step further by damaging the gate and two cars with yellow paint, forcing the family to spend RM2,000 on repairs. Concerned for her family’s safety, Yeng held a press conference organized by Johor Jaya DAP public complaints bureau chief Mok Meng Haw on October 12.

The single mother, who works as a company executive in Singapore, is particularly worried for her 14-year-old and 18-year-old children who live in the same house. She explains that she is only able to be home once a week, while her children reside with her sister, brother-in-law, brother, and mother. The constant fear has caused restless nights for the entire family. Yeng reveals that this is not the first time her ex-husband has encountered loan sharks. Their divorce was actually a result of his borrowing money from them. Even during their marriage, their house was vandalized with paint. Now, a decade after their separation, Yeng and her family are going through the same ordeal, despite no longer being in contact with her ex-husband. They have already filed three police reports regarding the harassment.

Yeng’s sister, known as Chee, asserts that they should be left alone as they have no involvement in the loan. The person who borrowed the money should be the one facing the consequences, leaving them traumatized. Mok, the Johor Jaya DAP public complaints bureau chief, urges the ex-husband to take responsibility and settle his debts. He mentions that there was another recent incident where a man’s house was vandalized with paint. This house was previously owned by Yeng’s ex-husband but was sold to the current owner years ago. Instead of going after the borrower, the loan sharks are harassing the ex-wife and the current owner of the house. Mok emphasizes the importance of the ex-husband admitting his actions and resolving the situation.

When contacted, a police official confirms that they have received the reports.
