PUTRAJAYA: Applications for admission to the Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET) institutions will be done through “a single window” from Oct 30, says Deputy Prime Minister Datuk Seri Dr Ahmad Zahid Hamidi.

He said that these applications can be made on the TVET Recruitment Unit (UP TVET) web portal at https://mohon.tvet.gov.my.

“This application is for entry into the 1,334 TVET institutions across the country based on the participant’s choice of the course they are interested in, as well as the name of the institution,” said Ahmad Zahid.

“This is to avoid duplication of applications. We are also looking at the interests of the participants because we want to avoid a mismatch of the courses,” he added.

Zahid said this at a press conference after witnessing the exchange of TVET Programme transformation cooperation memorandum documents between the government, government-linked companies (GLCs) and private companies here on Thursday (Oct 5).

He said the decision was reached at Thursday’s TVET council meeting attended by council members, Cabinet members from 12 TVET-related ministries, industry players and academicians.

Ahmad Zahid then said that the meeting also agreed that the courses offered should be based on technology such as renewable energy.

He then added that the courses offered should complement the market demand, especially from foreign investors in the country, adding that this would ensure investors could obtain trained skilled workers who can be directly absorbed into the company.

“This is in line with the Prime Minister’s recommendation to explore renewable energy as well as industrial strategy, where we expect these two fields to provide approximately 3.5 million new job opportunities,” said Ahmad Zahid

“I have directed the national TVET secretariat to prepare a roadmap plan to translate the national TVET policy 1.0 until 2030 and after that the same plan through the TVET 2.0 policy until 2050,” he added.

Ahmad Zahid then said that the marketability of TVET graduates has increased to over 92% while 7.5% of them continued their studies at a higher level.

He also said that he hopes TVET would be the main choice and the future to overcome the problem of student dropouts while at the same time reducing the level of unemployment in the country.
