KUALA LUMPUR: Lawyer Siti Kasim had been planning a trip to Kelantan to visit the Orang Asli, whose lives she helps to improve. However, her plans have been overshadowed by concern for her own safety after a makeshift device, believed to be a home-made bomb, was found under her car.
Siti, who is an activist, was left in shock at the discovery. “I don’t want to be upset over this but somehow it is upsetting,” she said tearfully. “I don’t know why some people would think that by killing me, everything will be quiet or that they could set an example. These people are morons and inhuman… anything I have said all this while was for the good of our country,” she added. She hopes that the perpetrators will be apprehended swiftly.
In a Facebook Live session, Siti stated that the police are diligently investigating the incident. “Kuala Lumpur police chief (Comm Datuk Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zain) went to the scene and assured me that the police will give it their all,” she mentioned. The police examined her car and determined how the culprit managed to attach the bottles to the wheel. “I was worried my dear old car would have been blown up,” she expressed.
Siti had sent her car for service as she intended to drive to Kelantan the following day. However, her plans were disrupted when her mechanic called and informed her about the object underneath her car. The police were immediately alerted, and the service centre was evacuated. The Bomb Squad conducted an operation to dispose of the device, which consisted of two bottles and some wires, believed to be an improvised explosive device (IED). The bottles will be sent to experts for further analysis, and the police will continue their investigations.
Siti, grateful that her car was at the service centre, remains undeterred by the incident. She still plans to travel to Kelantan for the Orang Asli case tomorrow.
