Lawyer-activist Siti Kassim has referred to the recent attempt on her life as an act of terrorism aimed at silencing her right to free speech. Siti stated that the two bottles, believed to be improvised explosive devices (IEDs), were planted on her car in an effort to quiet her vocal opinions against the use of religion in politics. She further indicated that she does not have any known enemies and sees no reason for someone to directly target a lawyer like herself.

Siti suggested that her strong advocacy against the use of religion in politics may have angered individuals with extremist religious views, leading them to target her. She clarified that her criticism is not directed at Islam, but rather aimed at exposing the inappropriate utilization of religion in the political sphere. She expressed her disappointment regarding the lack of condemnation from political leaders in response to the life-threatening incident.

Siti emphasized that the placement of a bomb in her car, which could endanger not only her life but also the lives of others, should be viewed as an act of terrorism. Despite the potentially deadly nature of the incident, she highlighted the absence of any public statements denouncing it from political leaders. As a result, she has resorted to using a rented car for transportation.

In addition, Siti mentioned that two undisclosed ministers privately contacted her following the incident, a gesture she greatly appreciated. On July 21, a suspected IED was found attached under Siti’s car after she took it to a workshop for servicing. The Inspector-General of Police, Tan Sri Razarudin Husain, stated on July 24 that the incident is being investigated as attempted murder.
