Chief of Johor police, Comm M. Kumar, has stated that statements have been taken from six individuals regarding the murder of a one-year-old child, which was allegedly committed by the child’s mother.

These individuals include the baby’s father, other family members, and neighbors.

Kumar mentioned that the investigation is still ongoing and several witnesses have been called in to provide their statements.

The main suspect, the child’s mother, is currently under remand at Hospital Permai until March 23.

“Preliminary findings indicate that she has health issues, but we are awaiting reports from the hospital,” Kumar explained during a press conference held after his visit to a Ramadan bazaar near a mall in Johor Baru.

He also disclosed that the 32-year-old suspect is receiving treatment at the hospital for head injuries.

The incident took place on Sunday, March 17, when the woman was arrested for allegedly slitting her baby boy’s throat at their residence in Pasir Gudang.

Prior to this, a report was filed about the baby’s death at around 1:30pm on Saturday, March 16.

On Monday, March 18, the woman was sent to Permai Hospital for mental evaluation, as confirmed by Johor health and environmental committee chairman, Ling Tian Soon. He added that the woman would remain at the hospital for approximately a week for further assessment by medical professionals.

Comm Kumar also addressed a separate issue regarding 11 police reports received about socks bearing the word “Allah” being sold. He mentioned that police had visited the factory responsible for the production of the controversial socks and confiscated five pairs.

He urged the public to refrain from engaging in any form of disruptive behavior such as riots, gatherings, or protests related to the issue, in order to maintain public harmony.

During his visit to the bazaar, Comm Kumar informed that 400 police officers have been assigned to 155 Ramadan bazaars across the state.

Individuals struggling with mental health concerns or contemplating suicide are encouraged to seek support from various helplines such as the Mental Health Psychosocial Support Service, Talian Kasih, Jakim’s Family, Social and Community care centre, and Befrienders Kuala Lumpur.
