A skipper aged 42 passed away in a water accident in Sandakan waters earlier this week when two boats collided with each other. The Sandakan police received a report about the incident at Sungai Bungon on Tuesday (Sept 19) at 3pm. The collision took place between a passenger boat carrying 12 passengers from Pulau Bungon and a small boat carrying two individuals from the opposite direction. Despite attempting to maneuver and avoid impact, both boats collided and capsized at a narrow river corner. The crash resulted in the skipper of the small boat suffering head injuries, which ultimately caused his death. According to Sandakan acting OCPD Supt Ramasamy Kuppan, the remaining passengers on both vessels managed to escape to safety. The victim’s body has been taken to Duchess Of Kent Hospital in Sandakan for an autopsy. The case is currently being investigated under Section 304 A of the Penal Code, which deals with causing death by negligence.
