KUALA LUMPUR: Rapper Caprice has settled the defamation lawsuit filed against him by businessman Datuk SM Faisal SM Nasimuddin Kamal. The settlement was reached in the Sessions Court on Friday (Aug 4) with Caprice issuing an apology to SM Faisal.
Representing SM Faisal, lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader stated that both parties agreed to settle the suit. As part of the settlement, Caprice, whose real name is Ariz Ramli, will upload an apology on his Instagram within 48 hours. The terms of the settlement, including costs, remain confidential.
Speaking to reporters after the court proceeding, Lawyer Datuk Akberdin Abdul Kader confirmed that Caprice had also apologized to SM Faisal in person. The consent judgment was recorded by Judge Azian Othman in the presence of Harjoth Singh, representing Ariz.
The defamation lawsuit was filed by SM Faisal last year on Aug 15, alleging that Caprice had posted a defamatory statement on Instagram linking the businessman to his ex-wife, Emilia Hanafi’s case. SM Faisal sought general, punitive, exemplary, and aggravated damages, as well as costs and an order for Caprice to remove and delete the defamatory post.
Shortly after the settlement, it was noted that Caprice had uploaded an apology to SM Faisal on his Instagram account. – Bernama
