The Sabah Maju Jaya Fellow Programme 2.0 will now include diploma graduates, STPM leavers, and degree holders, as announced by Chief Minister Datuk Seri Hajiji Noor. The expansion aims to foster holistic development for the younger generation and prepare them as competent, productive, and capable future leaders.
Several agencies, institutions, and nine government-linked companies (GLC) will be strategic partners in the programme execution. The addition of these ministries and GLCs will help achieve the goals of the SMJ Fellow programme and encourage healthy competition and self-improvement among youths in Sabah.
Hajiji’s speech was read by state Youth and Sports Minister Datuk Ellron Angin during the presentation of the fellow programme. He urged the Sabah Youth Council and the state Youth and Sports Ministry to fully entrust the implementation of the programme to the council, with the ministry’s supervision.
The chief minister expressed hope that the SMJ Fellow programme participants placed in various ministries, agencies, and GLCs would receive direct guidance from top leadership and gain exposure to the professional world, learning about organizational administration. He encourages participants to absorb knowledge and skills that they can later apply to serve their communities.
Hajiji also highlighted the formation of the Sabah Students Consultative Council under the Chief Minister’s Department as a part of various initiatives to strengthen the state’s human resource. The council provides a platform for leading Sabah undergraduates and students from higher learning institutions to exchange views and share their aspirations.
One of the council’s suggestions was the establishment of a youth transit house to support targeted groups who require temporary lodging and alleviate their burden. The government has agreed to implement this suggestion.
