PETALING JAYA: A fund of RM30,000 has been allocated to SMK Suria Perdana in Batu Pahat, Johor, to construct a facade featuring Semarang cultural elements, according to Ayer Hitam MP Datuk Seri Dr Wee Ka Siong. He stated that the school, established in 2013, currently serves more than 600 students, with an anticipated increase in enrollment. Dr Wee mentioned that the establishment of the school was a result of his tenure as Deputy Education Minister from 2007 to 2013. During that time, Ayer Hitam town and its surrounding areas only had one SMK school, which was SMK Dauk Menteri. In 2008, the school’s student population exceeded 2,000, and there was a need for more space.
After more than a year of efforts, the government approved an allocation of RM32.7 million to construct SMK Suria Perdana, which is situated approximately 3km away from SMK Datuk Menteri. The school officially opened its doors and commenced operations in January 2013. Initially, only four Form One and Form Two classes were available, accommodating around 100 students.
Today, the school boasts over 600 students, as mentioned by Dr Wee during the school’s 10th-anniversary celebration, called the Karnival 1 Dekad SUPER, which he himself inaugurated. As the president of MCA, Dr Wee revealed that the RM30,000 allocation will be channeled to the school’s Parent-Teacher Association for the construction of the Semarang cultural facade.
