(Reuters) – Brazilian defender Roger Ibanez has signed a four-year deal with Al-Ahli, joining from AS Roma, the Saudi Pro League team confirmed on Thursday.
No details were disclosed regarding the transfer fee for the 26-year-old player, who previously moved to Roma from Atlanta on a permanent deal in 2021.
Last season, Ibanez netted three goals in 48 appearances for Jose Mourinho’s squad.
“Welcome to Al-Ahli, Roger!” Al-Ahli posted on messaging platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Following the dismissal of German coach Matthias Jaissle by Red Bull Salzburg, Al-Ahli has appointed him as manager on a three-year contract.
Ibanez’s arrival marks the latest addition to Al-Ahli’s roster as they make their return to the Pro League after a season in the second division. Other recent signings include Riyad Mahrez, Roberto Firmino, goalkeeper Edouard Mendy, Alain Saint-Maximin, and Franck Kessie.
The Saudi Public Investment Fund (PIF) has announced the Sports Clubs Investment and Privatization Project, which involves Al-Ittihad, Al-Ahli, Al-Nassr, and Al-Hilal, the league champions.
PIF currently owns 75% of each of these four clubs, with their respective non-profit foundations owning the remaining 25%.
