BERLIN (Reuters) – Tottenham Hotspur striker Harry Kane has agreed to move to German champions Bayern Munich after the two clubs reached a preliminary deal for his transfer, Germany’s Bild newspaper said on Friday.
According to the report, Kane’s potential move to Bayern would make it the most expensive transfer in Bundesliga history, with a fee of around 100 million euros.
While the English club and Bayern reportedly finalized the deal on Thursday, Kane’s consent was required as he still has one more year left on his contract with Tottenham.
Both clubs have refrained from commenting on the matter thus far.
Bild newspaper, without disclosing a specific source, stated that Kane agreed to the deal overnight and is expected to sign a four-year contract with Bayern.
Having emerged as the winners of the league for a record-breaking 11th consecutive time last season, Bayern have been eager to bring in Kane in an effort to strengthen their attacking lineup and contend for the Champions League title again.
Kane has been associated with Tottenham since joining their academy at the age of 11. He made his senior debut in 2011 and although he has had loan spells at Leyton Orient, Millwall, Norwich City, and Leicester City, he has spent the majority of his career with the north London club.
In his time at Spurs, Kane has scored an impressive 280 goals in over 430 appearances across all competitions, making him the club’s all-time leading scorer. He has also represented the England national team, scoring 58 goals in 84 games.
Additionally, Kane currently stands as the second-highest scorer in Premier League history, just 47 goals behind Alan Shearer’s record of 213 goals.
Bayern coach Thomas Tuchel will hold a press conference on Friday ahead of Saturday’s season opener, the German Super Cup against RB Leipzig. The Bundesliga will officially commence next week, with Bayern facing Werder Bremen on August 18.
