MERSING: The Malaysian Anti-Corruption Commission (MACC) has refuted claims that they accused former prime minister Tan Sri Muhyiddin Yassin of involvement in misconduct regarding government vehicle supply and maintenance contracts with Spanco Sdn Bhd.

MACC chief commissioner Tan Sri Azam Baki clarified that his previous statement about potentially summoning more individuals, including a former prime minister, was based on the possibility of aiding the investigation related to Spanco Sdn Bhd.

“I was asked if Muhyiddin would be called for questioning, and I simply mentioned that we are not ruling out that option.

“At the same time, I rely on our investigators for information, so this is just one of the many scenarios that could unfold.

“Therefore, I am not assuming Muhyiddin’s involvement. If he is required for the investigation, I would leave it to our officers to summon him,” he stated.

He made these remarks after the anti-corruption pledge event at the Mersing District Office and the inauguration of the Mersing MACC office at Dewan Jubli Intan Sultan Ibrahim on Sunday (Feb 25).

Azam mentioned that the investigation into Spanco is still ongoing, and several witnesses, including the former finance minister at the time, have been called in for questioning.

When questioned about Muhyiddin’s denial of any wrongdoing in relation to government vehicle contracts with Spanco, Azam reiterated that the investigation into Spanco is still in progress.

Earlier, Azam had indicated that the MACC was not ruling out the possibility of summoning more individuals, including a former prime minister, to assist in the investigation linked to Spanco.

The focus of the investigation is on contracts signed between 2020 and 2021.

On Feb 23, Muhyiddin released a statement on his Facebook account addressing the allegations circulating in the news and on social media.

“Similar to previous accusations of embezzlement of billions of ringgit, these latest claims against me have yet to be substantiated by those making the allegations,” he expressed.
