KUALA LUMPUR: Datuk Seri Ahmad Zahid Hamidi has spoken out against a Member of Parliament’s accusations that DAP’s top leaders were related to Chin Peng, emphasizing the importance of speaking based on facts and not casting allegations due to parliamentary immunity.
The Deputy Prime Minister addressed the issue during the Rural and Regional Development Ministry’s reply on Budget 2024, emphasizing that historical literacy is crucial in discussions of this nature.
During the session in the Dewan Rakyat, RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) expressed shock at Dr Siti Mastura Mohamad’s (PN-Kepala Batas) allegations of DAP leaders having connections to the communist movement.
Siti Mastura specifically alleged that DAP chairman Lim Guan Eng had blood relations with the Communist Party of Malaya, and in a widely shared video, she linked Lim and his wife, Betty Chew, to other DAP leaders such as Anthony Loke, Teresa Kok, Nga Kor Ming, and Datuk Ngeh Koo Ham.
She also claimed that DAP stalwart Tan Sri Lim Kit Siang was a cousin of former Singapore prime minister Lee Kuan Yew, allegedly making these claims during an election campaign for the Kemaman by-election.
Bukit Bendera MP Syerleena Rashid lodged a report at the Travers police station, stating that Siti’s actions were intending to distort facts and create a negative perception of Kit Siang and his family.
