Dewan Rakyat Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul and his wife Puan Sri Noraini Mohd attended a feast hosted by China President Xi Jinping to celebrate the launching of the 19th Asian Games in Hangzhou. Other world leaders present at the event included Syria President Bashar al-Assad, King of Cambodia King Norodom Sihamoni, Kuwaiti Crown Prince Mishal Al-Ahmad Al-Jaber Al-Sabah, Nepal Prime Minister Pushpa Kamal Dahal, South Korea Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, and Timor-Leste Prime Minister Xanana Gusmão.
In an Instagram post, Johari expressed his appreciation for the organizers’ meticulous preparation for the event and said that his attendance represented the honor bestowed upon the Malaysian Parliament. He felt honored to have met President Xi and leaders from other countries to discuss tighter regional cooperation.
He stated that this was the best opportunity to foster socially inclusive and sustainable development for the Asian Century. Malaysia and China remain committed to opening opportunities for multilateral cooperation among the peoples of Malaysia, China, and ASEAN.
