The completion and submission of the Pasir Gudang City Council (MBPG) Special Area Plan (RKK) for villages on the outskirts of the city is expected to take place by the end of October, according to Pasir Gudang mayor Datuk Asman Shah Abd Rahman. He stated that the local council is currently in the final phase of its study and focus group discussion, and will provide a report to the district office once the process is finished. The RKK will serve as a guide for future development in the city, highlighting the necessary steps and projects for the next five years.
The RKK is being developed because there is currently a lack of understanding regarding the needs of the villages in Pasir Gudang. Asman Shah explained that this plan will ensure that any development carried out in these areas will be worthwhile and sustainable. The study for the RKK commenced in January and forms a part of the Pasir Gudang Local Plan for the year 2030. Fourteen traditional villages on the outskirts of the city, including Kampung Tanjung Langsat, are involved in the RKK study.
Asman Shah emphasized the importance of the RKK by providing examples of recent incidents that could have been avoided with better infrastructure. He cited the cases of open burning near Kampung Sungai Tiram and water issues in Kampung Orang Asli Pasir Putih. Through the RKK, the city council will be able to seek financial allocation from the Local Government Development and Rural Development ministries to improve amenities and infrastructure in these areas.
As part of the efforts to address the issues faced by the communities, MBPG is planning to upgrade the fences at Tanjung Langsat landfill areas to prevent unauthorized access. Investigations have revealed that the recent fire at the landfill was likely caused by scavengers trespassing into the area, as stated by Asman Shah.
During a site visit with the Orang Asli Development Department (Jakoa), Johor Corporation (JCorp), and water utility company Ranhill SAJ, Tiram assemblyman Azizul Bachok informed that the water problems in Kampung Orang Asli Pasir Putih will be resolved soon. He mentioned that with permission from JCorp, Ranhill SAJ has started constructing water pipes for 30 village houses. As a temporary measure, two additional water tanks will be installed while waiting for the completion of the pipeline works.
