Three Selangor ehailing riders were arrested in Melaka for attempting to deliver drugs to a cross-boundary smuggling group. The riders, who worked for different ehailing service providers including a famous fast food delivery service, were apprehended during an ambush at Padang Temu on September 13. They had rented a car to travel from Selangor to deliver the drugs to the syndicate’s members, according to Melaka Tengah OCPD Asst Comm Christopher Patit.
Acting on a tip-off, the police tracked down the trio, aged 26 and 27, with two of them having prior criminal records related to drug abuse. On September 15, ACP Christopher Patit revealed that his team seized 20,386g of drugs estimated to be worth RM672,838, along with the car rented by the suspects. The total value of the confiscated items was over RM707,000.
ACP Christopher Patit also mentioned that the drugs were destined to be supplied to 101,930 drug addicts in a neighboring country, although he did not disclose the name of the country. Furthermore, the three suspects tested negative for drugs during screenings conducted by the authorities.
All three individuals have been remanded for seven days until September 20 to assist in the investigation. Their case will be handled under Section 39B of the Dangerous Drug Act 1952, whereby conviction can result in either a mandatory death penalty or lifetime imprisonment.
