KUALA LUMPUR: The six-day special sitting of the Dewan Rakyat, which is set to commence tomorrow, will primarily focus on the presentation of the 12th Malaysia Plan (12MP) mid-term review by Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
The purpose of the review is to assess the achievements of the five-year plan during its initial two-year period (2021-2022) and to determine the direction for the next three years (2023-2025) in order to establish a sustainable, prosperous, and high-income nation, taking into account current domestic challenges and global trends.
According to the Dewan Rakyat calendar, the presentation of the 12MP mid-term review is scheduled for 10am tomorrow, without an afternoon session as the debate will commence on Tuesday and continue until Thursday, followed by ministerial responses on September 18 and 19, as reported by Bernama.
On June 19, a special meeting was held between the Prime Minister, Cabinet ministers, and ministry secretaries-general to discuss the review, where it was agreed upon that all parties must work together to expedite the implementation of planned reforms and economic initiatives.
In a Facebook post, Anwar, who is also the Finance Minister, stated that the purpose of the special sitting is to deliberate upon the new approach in the 12MP, ensuring that the country’s economy remains strong and is aligned with the Malaysia Madani agenda.
Economy Minister Rafizi Ramli, quoting him, stressed the importance of evaluating the 12MP as a whole, as several assumptions or plans made prior to the Covid-19 pandemic from 2020 to 2022 have become outdated.
He further added that while the 12MP mid-term review is unique, it can also be considered a new plan for the country.
Originally tabled by the ninth Prime Minister, Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob, on September 27, 2021, the 12MP has an approximate development allocation of RM400 billion.
