KUALA LUMPUR: Two hospital workers were injured in a traffic accident that caused an ambulance to crash onto its side. Putrajaya OCPD Asst Comm Asmadi Abdul Aziz released a statement on Friday (Oct 27) explaining that the incident occurred early in the morning near Menara Usahawan in Putrajaya. CCTV footage of the accident revealed that the ambulance, which was en route to the Putrajaya hospital with a patient, was making a turn when a sports car collided with its side at a traffic light.
Asmadi stated, “The ambulance had its sirens on and was using its horn as it made the turn. However, the driver of the sports car lost control of his vehicle and failed to brake in time, ultimately hitting the ambulance on the left side.” Both female passengers in the ambulance, aged 24 and 28, who were employees of the Putrajaya hospital, sustained injuries. “One suffered neck injuries while the other had bruises on her hand and minor injuries on her head,” he added.
The driver of the sports car and his passenger escaped uninjured. Urine tests conducted on the driver, an Iraqi student from a nearby university, came back negative for drugs. ACP Asmadi dismissed rumors suggesting that the sports car driver was under the influence of alcohol, stating, “The investigating officer determined that there was no sign of alcohol influence, and a urine test confirmed the negative result.”
Furthermore, ACP Asmadi mentioned that the traffic light for the sports car lane was green at the time and was in sync with other vehicles. He also noted that another car had obstructed the view of the ambulance, which had its siren lights blocked as well. Investigations into the incident were ongoing.
